Takamura Hamono is a family-run forge in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, founded in 1945. Today it is run by third-generation blacksmith Terukazu Takamura together with his brother Hideo, while their father Toshiyuki, who has been awarded Japan’s Medal of Honour by the Emperor, still works in the forge. The family are pioneers of stainless steel knives and were among the first in Japan to use powdered steel (R2/SG2), which gives an extremely sharp edge that stays sharp for a long time.
Takamura knives are known for their thin laser grind, precise heat treatment and clean finish. They are easy to maintain and are used by chefs around the world, making them popular in both professional and home kitchens.
